Building His Dream Furniture Company to Build Your Dream Furniture

Watch How Sheldon Myeroff Turned His Hobby Into CVCF After Retirement

Following retirement from his executive recruiting firm, Sheldon Myeroff founded Chagrin Valley Custom Furniture as a vehicle to express his love and passion for furniture making. He had a vision for his new company - one that has remained its guiding light while growing into one of the premier custom furniture companies in America: "Build one piece of furniture at a time. Build it to be the best and most creative piece it can be". Sheldon searched for the right team to support his vision - designers, artists, woodworkers, and carpenters. Today, the CVCF team pushes one another to go above and beyond what they expects of each other to create furniture that is above and beyond what our clients expect. An accomplished draftsman, Sheldon designs furniture the old-fashion way - with a drawing table, a pencil, a protractor and compass, a straight edge, and, most important, an imagination that informs the furniture design that finds its way onto the sketchpad in front of him. Watch this video to see how Sheldon grew and nurtured Chagrin Valley into the company it is today.

A Natural Talent with Natural Materials

Watch Zach Schulte Discuss His Job and Furniture Making at Chagrin Valley Custom Furniture

Returning to Cleveland to become Chagrin Valley's Shop Foreman and VP of Operations, Zach brought with him his love and respect for the natural materials that go into the custom furniture crafted by CVCF. People working in the U.S. furniture design industry are not surprised that CVCF focuses on building modern eco-friendly epoxy resin furniture made with natural materials and sustainably sourced live edge wood slabs. Video: How CVCF Designs and Carves a CNC-Engraved Epoxy & Wood Table

CVCF specializes in true custom epoxy resin and wood river tables. Building River Tables: From Beginning to End

Chagrin Valley Custom Furniture gives you an in-depth look at the time, effort, and skill involved in building custom live edge epoxy resin and wood river tables – starting with the sustainable harvesting of trees and closing with shipping the tables to homeowners and businesses all across the United States.

You’ll see how the wood slabs are cut, air dried, kiln dried, flattened and smoothed at the mill. Then you’ll see how customers are able to select their own slabs for their tables. The slabs are then taken to our custom furniture manufacturing facility just outside Cleveland, Ohio to be cut to specs and prepped for the all-important epoxy pour. The epoxy colors are mixed and poured between two live edge slabs of wood.

We then build special heavy-duty crates -customized for each table – and ship the table to homes, businesses, restaurants, and retirees in Florida, California, New York, Arizona, Colorado, New Jersey, Virginia, and all across America. Sheldon Myeroff, President of CVCF, and Zach Schulte, VP, and Ed Johnson, Administrator, narrate the video.

Learn About About Building River Tables And Epoxy Resin And Wood Furniture From Chagrin Valley Custom Furniture

  • How Do You Make A River Table?

    • A “River Table” is created by the furniture making team at Chagrin Valley Custom Furniture. A River Table is a live edge table that uses colored epoxy resin to fill the gap between two opposing live edge pieces– thus creating the appearance of a small “river.”

  • Why Is Epoxy So Expensive?

    • The epoxy resins used by CVCF river table builders to coat river table tops are more expensive than casting (polyester or liquid synthetic) resins which are used for molds, figurines, industrial prototypes, jewelry and crafts. Casting resins cost less than clear epoxy resins but CVCF normally uses more expensive epoxy resins to build the highest quality handcrafted and custom designed river tables for sale, due to their strength.

  • What Is The Best Epoxy For A River Table?

    • CVCF uses many types of epoxy resins to build epoxy resin river tables for sale and epoxy resin wooden countertops at our U.S. custom furniture manufacturing facility. CVCF river table builders prefer to use crystal clear high performance epoxy resins for wood slab countertops, kitchen countertops and dining room table tops because these epoxy resins are reliable and durable. The epoxy resins used by CVCF are resistant to burns, stains, scratches, gouges, cracks and chips.

Sheldon Myeroff, Founder, President And Lead Custom Furniture Designer

Sheldon is President and CFM (Chief Furniture Maker) at Chagrin Valley Custom Furniture. In just a few short years, Sheldon went from garage hobbyist to Founder and President of one of the largest custom furniture builders in America. Passion for his product and people and love of wood in all its forms has led him to this point. But he wasn’t quick to get here.

After graduating from Cleveland State University as a Marketing Major, Shel spent 37 years as founder and president of Direct Recruiters in Solon Ohio. He started occasional furniture making in 2003 out of his garage. He gained valuable furniture building experience by studying with two remarkable mentors, learning at every opportunity, and hands-on experience making hundreds of custom furniture projects (albeit mostly for family). He formed CVCF in 2013, and after retiring from Direct Recruiters in 2017, Sheldon immediately opened his new Chagrin Valley Custom Furniture facility and became a professional furniture maker and resin artist. Sheldon’s biggest passion is helping buyers decide what they want, creating sketches that bring the furniture to life, and delivering a product that always exceeds expectations.

Zach Schulte, Partner, Epoxy Resin & Wood Furniture Designer, VP Operations & Shop Foreman

After receiving his degree in business from the University of Arizona, Zach Schulte spent 2 years as a finish carpenter before joining the Chagrin Valley team in 2014. In 2016, Zach felt the call to head west, plying his trade as a carpenter and home renovation woodworker in the Portland, Oregon area. Two years later, he answered the call from Sheldon Myeroff, who pleaded with Zach to return to the “Forest City” and become an integral part of his fast-growing company. And so he did – happily. In early 2018, Zach became shop foreman at CVCF while continuing to master his furniture making skills under the tutelage of the veteran furniture makers at CVCF. In January 2019, Zach was named Partner at CVCF. In 2020 perfected his skills as a resin artist. Pioneers don’t always head West. Zach headed back East to pioneer new and better processes in epoxy resin river furniture making.

Paul Hadley, Custom Metal Furniture Designer, Fabricator & Craftsman

Paul has been a metal fabricator, metal furniture maker, designer and craftsman since the 1970’s. Our custom-made iron, wrought iron, steel, aluminum and metal legs are designed  in partnership with Paul and fabricated at his shop, CMS Studios in Bedford Heights, Ohio. The wide variety of tools and machines at CMS allows Paul to create and fabricate an enormous variety of artistic and functional pieces, including the unique table legs you find on our site. His work is seen throughout Northeast Ohio, most recently at B-Spot in Eaton Collection, Woodmere.

Ed Johnson, Farmhouse Table Designer, Administrator, Woodworker & Designer

Ed is a veteran furniture maker who joined CVCF when we moved into our new shop facility in 2018. Ed came to Cleveland via Freehold, New Jersey, the same town Bruce Springsteen is from, to work for BP in supply chain logistics. For over 40 years, Ed has pursued woodworking as a hobby while studying under some of the great furniture making mentors of our day. One of his most valued traits is his ability to identify any issues with any of our machines and fix them right on the spot. Ed’s most prized possession is his Stanley Classic 14″ Bailey Corrugated Wood Plane No.5 which he pulls out to use on the really special projects. In January 2019, Ed was named Administrator and is charged with keeping a tight ship while watching out for quality control and overseeing the resin artwork.

Eric Goodfellow, Live Edge Furniture Designer And Maker

Eric is a longtime friend of Zach Schulte, CVCF Partner and Shop Foreman. They both pursued careers in woodworking and home remodeling, but in different parts of the country. Now Zach and Eric are reunited on the floor of CVCF where they combine their superb woodworking and carpentry skills in the creation of unique epoxy resin river tables and other solid wood furniture. Where did they learn to work so well together? St. Ignatius High School, of course.

Brandon Watts, Solid Wood Furniture Designer & Builder, Woodworker and Certified Arborist

Brandon came on board in the summer of 2018. He started out as a woodworking hobbyist in California, doing hand carving with gouges and chisels, then went on to study woodworking in college. Not only does Brandon add superb woodworking capabilities to our team, he also is a Certified Arborist who knows the nature of trees inside and out. He diagnoses trees for diseases and pests and brings sick trees back to health. He’ll make sure the wood for your furniture is happy and healthy!

Sky Ironhorse, Epoxy Furniture Design Specialist, Art Director and Modern Furniture Maker

Sky joined CVCF in 2020 after graduating from the prestigious Cleveland Institute of Art following an internship at the shop. Her degree is in Industrial Design with a focus on products and furniture design. At CVCF, she wears many hats (this reporter had her take off for this photo). She experiments with new styles of epoxy resin pours, develops new product ideas based on today’s consumer and the latest and hottest furniture trends, and creates beautiful furniture renderings and 3-D modeling. And speaking of modeling, Sky models for magazines when she has some spare time. Growing up, her dad and grandfather made furniture in the shop in the family’s garage while Sky looked on and learned. Today she is no longer simply an onlooker – she is a vital part of the team at CVCF.

Brendan Bennett, Social Media Marketing Director

After graduating from Kent State University, Brendan began his work as an entrepreneur in the business of flipping Bitcoin. Today, he works hard as an independent digital marketing expert, content writer, and video production expert for companies across Ohio and Pennsylvania. Brendan also manages CVCF’s news page, where content concerning new pages and developments in the world of custom furniture design is updated regularly.

Hank Schulte, Furniture Maker

Hank Schulte graduated from John Carroll University as a teacher with special studies in Industrial Arts. He worked for over 25 years as an Industrial Arts teacher at Beachwood High School in Beachwood Ohio where he taught students CAD Drawing, Photography, Computers, and Shop. Hank came to CVCF four years ago and applied his woodworking skills to assist our Master Furniture Makers.

Beth Cohen, Paint Specialist, Furniture Designer & Interior Decorator

Beth has been a professional designer/painter in the Cleveland area for over 30 years. She has extraordinary talent in helping clients fulfill their vision of how they want each piece to be uniquely “theirs”. From one-of-a-kind textures, faux and custom designed patterns, to the ability to see the “color in the color”, each piece has its own signature. Beth is able to guide her clients to their desired finishes with their input, her experience, and make it all work with current or envisioned settings in their home.

Epoxy Resin River Tables Making a Splash in USA Homes, Restaurants and Offices: Chagrin Valley Custom Furniture is Helping to Meet the Demand

In 2017, Sheldon Myeroff retired from his executive recruiting company to pursue his hobby as a furniture maker. Flash forward two years – Sheldon now runs Chagrin Valley Custom Furniture, a booming handcrafted furniture company, in a 4000 sq. ft. woodworking shop, employs six full time furniture makers and a marketing team, and keeps a dry erase board in his office that is filled with orders for his specialty product – epoxy resin river tables.

“Two years ago, I was making barn doors and live edge coffee tables for friends and family,” says Myeroff. “Now I’m getting calls from well-to-do homeowners, posh restaurant owners, and successful business owners in California, Vegas, Miami, Boston – all around the country – who want something really stylish, creative, and original.”

Epoxy resin river tables typically have two live edge wood slabs with a colored epoxy resin pour sandwiched between. The uneven winding edges of the raw wood combined with the translucent epoxy resin give the appearance of a river flowing through the tabletop. This effect can be made even more stunning by adding LED epoxy resin table lights beneath the tabletop to create an ethereal glow.

River tables are both an art and an engineering feat. CVCF spent a year-and-a-half perfecting the art of making river tables before launching their first epoxy resin furnishings offerings.

“It was a super challenge,” says VP and Shop Foreman Zach Schulte. “Epoxy has fluid properties that react differently to varying conditions of time, heat, humidity, and other environmental and physical conditions.”

There are other challenges, as well. It can take weeks to make one table considering the numerous layers of epoxy resin required and the hours of drying time needed for each pour layer. In addition, objects are often embedded in the epoxy – river rock epoxy, shells, glitter, newspaper articles, and personal memorabilia.

Every piece that CVCF makes is unique to each individual or business because they tell Sheldon what to make based on their own design concept. Most national custom furniture companies don’t really make “custom” furniture – they only let you choose from a limited set of sizes, shapes, colors, and so on. And most local custom furniture companies that make truly original pieces are one-man or one-woman shops that do not have the infrastructure or workforce to keep a national business model going.

CVCF, on the other hand, has developed proprietary online ordering and fulfillment software that makes it possible for customers to submit their own totally original river table design idea or drawing for CVCF to turn into a CAD drawing for the client’s approval. Then the client is involved in the selection of the actual piece of wood, chooses the exact colors and textures of the epoxy resin, the types of wood or metal legs, and so on. They are then able to follow their furniture via technology as it is being created.

“A river table is the antidote for the craziness going on in the world now,” says Myeroff. “It brings peace, tranquility and natural beauty into the home or office – and that’s what I love about my job.”

About Chagrin Valley Custom Furniture

CVCF is a Cleveland-based company that designs and builds authentic handcrafted custom furniture. It was founded by Clevelander Sheldon Myeroff in 2015 in the basement of his Chagrin Falls, OH home. Myeroff previously founded, and has since retired from, Direct Recruiters, Inc., a highly successful executive recruiting company. In 2017, CVCF relocated to a 4,000 sq. ft. showroom/design studio/woodworking facility in Warrensville Heights, Ohio and currently employs six veteran woodworkers who bring their passion and joy to every original project.

From Careerbuilder To Woodworker: How This Retired Recruiter Transformed His Hobby Into A Business

In 2013, he decided to turn his hobby into a second career. He left Direct Recruiters and informally went into the furniture making business—making pieces for friends, family, and neighbors. “Because I’m an entrepreneur, I cannot sit still,” Myeroff proclaims. “We started out of our garage in Chagrin Falls about five years ago as I was exiting my 38-year career as owner of a recruiting firm.” By 2018, Myeroff officially retired. Business was so good that he officially launched Chagrin Valley Custom Furniture (CVCF) and opened a state-of-the-art woodworking shop and showroom in Warrensville Heights. “It’s a beautiful shop, highly automated,” he shares. “We like to work in the rustic zone and put a modern twist on it.”

While Myeroff says he began by “building everything,” today he has built CVCF into a thriving custom furniture Cleveland business that serves the public, the hospitality industry, and corporate clients—fulfilling orders from all over the United States. He has about a half dozen woodworkers on staff, with Zach Schulte acting as shop foreman and vice president of operations. CVCF specializes in rustic furniture—many pieces are made from reclaimed barn wood—and live-edge pieces that incorporate the natural edge of the wood into the look. Many of these pieces also incorporate a waterfall (or riverbed), which is a technique using epoxy resin to create a colorful accent.

“A live edge is basically the end of the tree, and it’s very popular right now,” Myeroff explains. “We blend the rustic live edge with epoxy, and it’s one of the most fun things we do. We build everything out of rustic wood, and we use a lot of Northeast Ohio wood—walnut, maple, cherry, sassafras.” Custom furniture prices are determined based on the project but can range between $900 for a small table to upwards of $6,000 for a live edge dining room table or other larger piece. Myeroff works closely with clients to create one-of-a-kind pieces that fit their visions. “Some of them are conservative and want to do conservative stuff, and I don’t mind,” he says. “But I sneak stuff in there. Then it gets to their place and they say they love it.” No matter what a customer wants, Myeroff assures the design will be unique: “We never sell two things alike—they are all different.” CVCF’s showroom is located at 26309 Miles Rd, Suite 4, in Warrensville Heights. The showroom is normally open from 9am to 5pm, but Myeroff advises calling him at (440) 591-5511 before heading in.

Furnishings for A Christmas Story’s Bumpus House Returned to 1940’s Glory

When the folks from A Christmas Story House decided to open the next-door neighbor’s house for rental, they called Sheldon Myeroff of Chagrin Valley Custom Furniture (CVCF) to restore, repair, and recreate vintage 1940’s-style furniture for the house located in the Tremont District of Cleveland, Ohio. A Christmas Story is an iconic movie from 1983, filmed in Cleveland, that has become a holiday classic.

It features Ralphie Parker’s childhood home as well as the next-door Bumpus house. Ralphie’s house and A Christmas Story House Museum across the street were opened to the public in 2006. When the Bumpus home was bought in 2016 for overnight rental, it needed quite a bit of renovation, including selecting and restoring the period piece furnishings. Jennifer Hoffine, Bumpus House project manager, said, “We searched the internet and were thrilled to find Sheldon’s custom furniture company right here in Cleveland. They were great to work with, delivered the project on budget and on schedule and it looked better than we could have ever imagined.”

The furniture was broken, distressed and scratched, with bumps, grinds and peeling stains and paint. It took long hours of furniture refinishing, repairing, and restoration for CVCF to bring the pieces back to their original glory. Furnishings included 40’s-style beds, doors, tables, armor, side tables – even the kitchen sink which they repurposed from old pieces/parts. CVCF worked on the project from July to September 2018 in order to have it ready for the home’s October opening.

“We loved the project”, said Myeroff, CVCF owner and furniture maker. “We already were fans of the movie because of the Cleveland connection and we were honored to participate in making it perfect for visitors”.

The Chagrin Valley process is different from other custom furniture makers (builders) because we only make true custom furniture. That means you don’t go online to order and pay at the start of the process. With CVCF, you are part of the custom furniture-making process every step of the way as together we create a completely new, one-of-a-kind piece of epoxy resin furniture, specific to your unique needs and desires. You give us your design idea, choose the epoxy color, wood slab, make tweaks in the design, all remotely through video technology. You can even have an emblem or your company logo machined into the wood and filled with epoxy, or embed items in the epoxy such as school and college logos, river table with rocks, crystals, and other sentimental memorabilia.

We harvest our wood sustainably, often under the direction of the U.S. Forest Service. This ensures the long term health of the forest. We spend up to 2 years removing moisture from the logs before starting to work with them. This helps prevent warping and cracking of the wood. Our 6,000 sq. ft. workshop is fully equipped to handle all the challenges of making a beautiful epoxy resin river table, which includes a temperature controlled, clean spray room for a smoother, scratch-resistant coat. We also offer a large variety of metal and wood legs, plus you can design your own legs if you wish.

Our furnishings include custom epoxy resin river tables, epoxy resin river beds and headboards, epoxy resin desks, epoxy resin wall art, rustic to modern farmhouse tables, barn doors, benches, countertops, live edge wood shelves and so much more. Prices for our conference tables are based on such factors as size, wood species, live edge/not live edge, conference table components, epoxy resin, engraved table with company names, engraved furniture with logos, embedded objects in epoxy resin rivers, etc. Prices for our solid wood and live edge conference tables start at about $4,500, average about $9,000, and top off at about $18,000. Prices for conference tables with epoxy resin rivers and epoxy-filled CNC logos or scenes will cost more.

Reviews From Our Customers

We looked at a lot of River table websites and YouTube videos before contacting Chagrin Valley. They walked us through the design process and selection of the wood. Since we couldn’t be present for the wood selection we had to rely on them. We wanted the rivers in our area ( Colorado, Roaring Fork, Crystal, and Frying Pan) plus our house depicted. We also wanted our initials as part of the legs. All this was accomplished and I believe we got a beautiful table. The pics I have attached show the table, it’s legs, and the depiction of our house location.

I COULD NOT be more thrilled with my resin table from Chagrin Valley Custom Furniture! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the table and I receive SO many compliments from just about everyone that sees it. Sheldon was extremely helpful and personal from the 1st email/phone call. Eric, Sheldon and the entire team was so very helpful and kind! I have been researching and shopping for a resin table for almost 5 years. This custom experience was worth the time! Thank you to ALL!!

Working with this team of professionals and even more, so creative group, was an amazing experience from start to finish. I was very specific about what we wanted for our table and base. If I wasn't completely happy with what they sent, they tried again until I knew it was our dream table. It's a one of a kind experience for a one of a kind table! I wanted to add they sent coasters for doing a review and they are spectacular. Like a lil version of our table. Wow just wow

This is the MOST amazing piece of furniture I have ever seen. I was looking for a unique dining room table and searched several high end furniture websites for ideas. I contacted CVCF and they helped me create this masterpiece of Denali from an abstract concept to the final product. I was involved every step of the way. Pictures do not do this table the justice it deserves. I am beyond happy with this company from the communication, responsiveness, professionalism and of course, the finished product.

Several months ago I found Chagrin Valley Custom Furniture online. I immediately fell in love with their work! I picked up the phone and called them; Shel answered the phone and after a long conversation he helped me narrow down what I was looking for. Shel then invited me to their facility to see how these custom masterpieces are made. That day I picked out the slabs for my river table. I also worked directly with Zach throughout the process. He was very prompt keeping me up to date on how the table was coming. My table was delivered today and it completely blew my expectations out of the water! The whole process was a world class experience! These are GREAT people to do business with, I would highly recommend them!!

My wife and I just finished a dining room renovation project. Working with Zach and his team was an absolute pleasure. To call the folks at CVCF great woodworkers doesn't seem enough. More accurately, they are artists that use wood, epoxy, and technology to deliver custom works of art. Not only is the finished product first class, but the personalized care and top-notch customer service weave together to make a great story, which is a special part of the process. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I ordered a custom coffee table and sideboard storage cabinet. The attention to detail and design far exceeded all expectations. I have pieces that will be passed down through generations. The staff is excellent to work and plan with. On both pieces and I now have a cohesive decor. Many, many thanks to Zach and the staff at Chagrin Valley Custom Furniture.

Gab D’Errico

Every step of the process was great. Shel kept me updated on the process. I told them what I was looking for and they found exactly what I wanted. They called me on FaceTime to allow me to see the wood slab and mailed samples of the epoxy before I made the color selection. The end result is AMAZING! I cannot say enough good things about Chagrin Valley Custom Furniture! I would recommend this company!

Zach and Shel made me a lovely custom sit/stand desk with drawers and extra wide keyboard tray and matching side table. Everything was done perfectly to the measurements I asked for and Shel picked the prefect wood to match my style. These are perfect pieces that are completely custom.

I'm amazed with the quality and craftsmanship of the boardroom river table CVCF made for us! The first time I talked to Sheldon, he asked me what style of table I was looking for and I told him that I wanted a river table 19' long and 5' wide. I also told him that I wanted it to be made in a steampunk style. He wasn't sure what that was, but boy, did he hit it out of the park with the river table he made for us. It has an industrial style base and an elegant top, and so I call it modern steampunk. It was created for shipment so that it arrived without any damage at all. It's absolutely beautiful! Shel, Zack and all the crew did a wonderful job and were great to work with!

Brendan Ganser

We worked with Shel and Zach to design a beautiful custom countertop for a beverage center at our lake house in Texas. We received our delivery yesterday! It arrived ahead of our cabinet construction, so we don’t have completed photos yet. We opened the large well made crate just to confirm all went well with the shipping process. It is stunning, and the workmanship and finish is superb! Zach was a great listener, excellent with follow through, creativity and expertise. Even the FedEx delivery man was amazed. He said, “ I do some wood working, may I touch it to feel the smoothness of the transitions?” The character of the wood, and the finish are just perfect! We can’t wait to see the completed project soon! Thank you so much-we will consider this piece the art in the room! We will add photos when project is completed!
